Descriptive Poetry Analysis

Please note that in many a few cases the theme may appear to be Conflict however it is intended to be theme

Poem Twilight Entered My Room
1)      What is being said=Sun light is slowly sneaking into a room crimson and filled with an ominous appeal, and the character is almost controlled by this light and it makes the character feel different emotions.
1)      Content, theme, ideas=the theme is almost human vs mind and nature, giving the poem a very different feel, mystical in a way. The general idea relates to a girl(could be a boy but I doubt it) trying to escape something but is not afraid of that something and she admires it.
1)      How is it being said? – What literary devices are used?= The poem seems to be told from the perspective of a lion, eagle, shark or other animal predator chasing something, although I think the poem is meant to be through the eyes of the prey. The literary devices I noticed were: simile, personification, metaphor as well I found the poem emanated a very euphonic feel.
1)      So what(what does it mean to me)= I found the poem very calming as well presenting a vivid image in my mind as I read of someone in their room at twilight by themselves in the house and then going to different rooms and being followed by the light. I connect to this feeling everyday however I do not try to escape it (especially during the holidays, summer, winter), and it is dawn not twilight.
Poem Prelude #1
1)      What is being said=The poem is pretty much describing the end of a weak day for a man in and around the 1800’s, and the calming down after an average day.
1)      Content, theme, ideas= The theme seems to be a human vs mind idea, because it is showing how everyday is the same and life just drags on, however that all depends on how the reader and the character thinks about it, if a person wants their life to be boring it will be and if they want excitement they will look and find it.
1)      How is it being said? – What literary devices are used? The poem seems to take place in a old fashioned town wet after rain, but not raining, the sky dark and dreary and the town lonely, however there is a “light at the end of the tunnel”(figuratively and literally), the lamp, that is being lit. The literary devices I noticed were: metaphor, again a very euphonic feel.
1)      So what(what does it mean to me)= I connect with this poem a lot, due to the constant schedule of school, homework and walking home from it all, especially in winter, however that does not really happen much anymore,  so this poem more reminds me of the past and I’m sure others can relate to the same feeling as well, but for different reasons.

Compare and Contrast
2)      Similarities= Both poems had a very euphonic feel to them, the poems involved human vs mind as a theme making them relatively complex, although most poetry is, the imagery was fantastic in both poems and I could really put myself in the characters place, although the mood was by far the winning similarity, both poems were calming, soft and overall nice to read.
2) Differences= “Prelude #1” had far fewer literary devices and the imagery seemed for me to be black and white, where as the poem “Twilight entered my room” was almost like a picture where there is a focal point red and the background is black, grey and white, “Twilight entered my room” also did a good job using personification where as “Prelude #1” was slightly duller.
Shifts
3)The major shifts I noticed in “Twilight Entered My Roomwas at the end of the poem when it said the sun kissing my feet with its red tongue., showed a very vivid shift from black and white ish to a red focal point(the tongue) and a black and white background. In the poem Prelude #1the major shift was at the end of the poem, And then the lighting of the lamps., this figuratively and literally shows a change from going to a gloomy wet town to all of a sudden a lit one, however it also signifies hope, because without a change or something new our lives would be the same old same old every day.
  Compare and Contrast Paragraph
4) Both poems “Twilight Entered My Room- by Paudelis Prevelakis and Prelude #1- by T.S. Eliot have many qualities in common. One of the most noticeable similarities is there euphonic harmony and how both poems are very calming and soothing. Secondly, both poems did an outstanding job at portraying the imagery, in both poems I felt like I was in an art gallery and looking at pictures of the poems, instead of reading them. As well the poems had a few literary devices in common such as: metaphor/s and imagery. However the poems also had many differences. I found  “Twilight Entered My Roomhad more poetic structure to it than Prelude #1 , but Prelude #1told more of a story. Ultimately, I found that the poems were more similar than they were different.
